Manual Therapy
Skilled, graded hands-on treatment of the joints and soft tissue that are limiting how you move.
What it is
Orthopaedic manual therapy is a certified post-graduate specialisation (COMT) in assessing and treating joint and soft-tissue restriction by hand. Rather than treating the spot that hurts, the examination looks for the segment or tissue that has stopped moving properly and left another structure taking the load. Techniques range from gentle graded mobilisation through to manipulation, and the choice depends on your presentation, how irritable it is, and what you are comfortable with.
What a session looks like
- 01A physical examination to find which segment or tissue is restricted, and how irritable it is.
- 02Graded mobilisation, soft-tissue work or manipulation applied to that structure.
- 03Re-testing straight afterwards, so you can feel what changed before you leave.
- 04A short home routine to hold the range you have just gained.
